Smith, Troy School District Superintendent from 1958 to 1969. Smith became a middle school when 6th graders were added in 1974. The building was expanded twice with the additions made in both 1973 and 1982. Smith Middle School was named a State Blue Ribbon School in 1994 and has received full accreditation from both the Michigan Department of Education and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Niles Community High School, located a mile via Livernois Road, is a non-traditional public high school that is attended by approximately 150 students in and around Troy. Students that attend N.C.H.S. are generally 16–19 years old and behind on credits. Niles Community High School has been in existence since 1995. The high school was created to assist students that demonstrate low academic success due to social, emotional, or behavioral issues. NCHS offers an accelerated academic program that allows students who have fallen behind in credits to catch up and graduate according to their original date of graduation.

Troy High School is a public high school attended by approximately 2,000 students serving grades 9-12. Located 2.0 miles via W Long Lake Road, Troy High School was founded in 1950. Originally located on Livernois Road near Big Beaver Road (a site currently occupied by the Troy Community Center), it was moved to a new location at Northfield Parkway and Long Lake Road in 1992, and was expanded in 2006. The school's expansion was overdue after many years of overcrowding in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
