South Lyon

Located in the southwest corner of Oakland County, near the intersection of I-96 & US 23, South Lyon is a quaint city of about 17,408 people that is experiencing significant growth. Less than an hour from the state capital in Lansing, 19 miles north of Ann Arbor and about 45 miles west of Detroit South Lyon combines the best of small-town living with the convenience of nearby interstates, large nearby metro areas and an international airport. This 3.73-square-mile community was originally founded in 1832. At that time, it was known as Thompson's Corners. The surrounding township was named Lyon, after Lucious Lyon, who was a member of the state legislature. In time, what was once known as "Thompson's Corners" became known as South Lyon because of its relation to Lyon. Officially incorporated as a village in 1873 it became an incorporated city in 1930.
