Foxfire is surrounded by nature areas such as parks, wetlands and walking trails. We have Foxfire North Park, South Park, West Park and East Park. ​Foxfire North Park is an 11.2-acre park located on Dhu Varren Rd. at Omlesaad. The park contains open fields. ​Foxfire South is an 19-acre natural area that contains habitat for locally uncommon butterflies such as the Acadian Hairstreak, which is found along streams and in wetlands where willows occur.  The plentiful wetland wildflowers here provide nectar sources for these butterflies, and the Natural Area Preservation Program is restoring this area to improve habitat and reduce invasive species. ​​Foxfire West is a 7-acre natural area that contains wetlands and a branch of the Traver Creek.  Adjacent to Olson Park, it provides an important habitat corridor for wildlife that depend on water, such as muskrat and ducks.  It also hosts a variety of wetland wildflowers that support butterflies.  Natural Area Preservation is restoring this area to improve habitat and reduce invasive species. And ​Foxfire East is a 3.14-acre park located on Dhu Varren Road at Omlesaad. It contains a shallow ravine and is seasonally quite wet. In the recent past, elms and ash were the dominant trees.

1.5 miles south is Plymouth Road Mall. It is a strip shopping center with over 25 tenants. Some are Evergreen Chinese restaurant, Songbird Cafe, Om Market Indian Grocery, Way 1 Supermarket and Foxfire Animal Clinic. Across the mall is Traver Village Shopping Center. Some of its tenants are Kroger, GNC, FedEX, and Pet Supplies Plus. Dining options inside the shopping center are Kroger Deli, Jimmy John’s and Domino’s Pizza.

2.5 miles east of Foxfire are Applebee's, CVS, Carson's American Bistro, Olga's Kitchen, and another grocery, Busch's Fresh Food Market.

Oakwoods Nature Area is 1.5 miles east. It's a 22-acre woodland with a pond and wetland. The park doesn't offer official trails. The park is good for nature sight-seeing and bird watching. Less than a mile south is another park, Sugarbrush. This park has over 27 acres and features walking trails, tennis courts, basketball court, softball, play areas, picnic areas and sledding hill.

3 miles south is Leslie Park Golf Course. It is rated 4.5/5 by Golf Digest and received a top honor of Best Municipal Course in Michigan. It was also voted Best Public Golf Course in Washtenaw County for the 5th time in 2015.

Michigan Stadium is located 4.5 miles southwest. It is a massive stadium built in 1927. It is the 2nd largest stadium in the world. It can accommodate more than 100,000 seats. The stadium is also known as “The Big House”.

Matthaei Botanical Gardens & Nichols Arboretum is 5 miles east. It offers sprawling botanical gardens, natural areas and habitats. It also has a visitor center, gift shop and conservatory. Nichols Arboretum has many outstanding trees and trails.

University Hospital is 4 miles southwest. It is an 11-story, 550-bed hospital serving adults. The hospital has diagnostic equipment, clinical laboratories, operating rooms and inpatient and intensive care units.

Clague Middle School 1.5 miles east. It was built in 1972 and was named after Mr. Ashley Clague, a civic leader. There are over 700 students with more than 25 languages spoken in the school.

Huron High School is 3.5 miles south. It is located at 2727 Fuller Road in eastern Ann Arbor near the banks of Huron River. It was named as one of America's Best High Schools in 2012 by Newsweek. In 2009 and 2010, it was also awarded Best Overall Academic Performance in Michigan by BusinessWeek.

Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor is 1.5 miles south. It provides a Waldorf based education for students in Grades PreK - 12, and is one of three Waldorf Schools in the State of Michigan. Waldorf education, also known as Steiner education, is based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophy. Its pedagogy emphasizes the role of imagination in learning, striving to integrate holistically the intellectual, practical, and artistic development of pupils. The school was opened on September 4, 1980 in a small building in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It initially had 10 students. 

Green House Montessori School is 2.5 miles southwest. It is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Michigan Montessori Society (MMS).

St Thomas Elementary School is 3.5 miles south. In 2018, the school will celebrate 150 continuous years of operation as the oldest Catholic school in the Ann Arbor area and one of the oldest in the country. They are accredited through the Michigan Non-Public School Accrediting Association.

St Francis of Assisi is 5.5 miles south. It was founded in 1952 with 155 students. The school accepts PK-Grade 8 students. As of 2017, the school has 405 students enrolled of which 5% is receiving financial assistance. There are 35 faculty members.

Clonlara School is 6 miles south. The school operates a Campus Program and a Home Based Education Program as alternative education. Their off-campus program is for families who want to craft an education on their own terms. Students and their families have flexibility and freedom to choose how they learn — so it fits them.

Fr Gabriel Richard High School is 6 miles east located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lansing. It was originally named St. Thomas the Apostle School and included an elementary school. It is a regional, comprehensive, co-educational Catholic High School offering a value-centered education based upon Catholic principles and traditions.

Greenhills School is 11 miles south. It is an independent college preparatory school (grades 6-12) recognized as one of six national Intel Schools of Distinction in 2007 for excellence as one of the nation's top schools for science. Some of the notable alumni here are Andrew Fetterly Wilkes-Krier,(rock musician), Eugene Kang (Special Assistant to President Barack Obama) and Elizabeth Meriwether (playwright and screenwriter- "No Strings Attached" And the FOX show "New Girl").

The school offers professional degrees in architecture, business, medicine, law, pharmacy, nursing, social work, public health, and dentistry and several doctoral degrees.

Washtenaw Community College is 6 miles southeast. It offers approximately credit programs in business, humanities and social science, health and public service, math and natural sciences, and technology.
