Half a mile south of Brookdale square is Kroger. Kroger also has a Fresh Produce section, Meat and Seafood section, and Natural Foods section. Lyon Gardens is 5 miles south of I-96. 12 miles east is I-275. It is thirty minutes from the city of Ann Arbor and forty-five minutes from Detroit.

Lyon Gardens Subdivision School District

Students of Lyon Gardens attend South Lyon Community Schools. They're assigned to Sayre Elementary School, Millenium Middle School and South Lyon East High School.

Sayre Elementary is a short walk from Lyon Gardens. The school uses various assessments improving instructors' delivery of lessons to students. Michigan's new online testing program, M-STEP, was successfully administered in the spring of 2015, with results expected in the fall. They offer special subjects muic, art, physical education, library, and special programs such as Reading Recovery, speech and language, and learning resource rooms.

Millennium Middle School is also within walking distance from Lyon Gardens. The school is committed to “quality with equity” a concept to improve the performance of all students, focusing on equity of results and closing achievement gaps. The school is accredited by the AdvancEd/NCA. The process makes students gain more achievement in middle school.

South Lyon East High School is 5 miles northeast. The school was built to compensate for the overcrowding at South Lyon High School. It opened in September 2007.

South Lyon is minutes away from Ann Arbor universities and colleges.

The University of Michigan is 15 miles south (25-minute drive).
