The Speakeasy is the official afterparty for the Society Ball, and unlike the Ball itself, it is open to the general public at one hundred dollars per ticket, making it one of the most accessible ways to experience the Guardian Building in a fully activated, celebratory setting. A 15-piece big band takes over the Guardian Building Promenade and transforms it into a Jazz Age dance hall, with Charleston lessons, East Coast Swing, an open bar, and late-night coneys rounding out the evening. The Guardian Building is one of the great Art Deco landmarks in the United States, and an event like The Speakeasy, a live big band in that lobby, on a Saturday night in April, is exactly what a building like that was built to host. Whether you attended the Society Ball or are walking in straight from dinner, The Speakeasy is a genuinely special Detroit night out.
