Metro Detroit! July 2022 is going to be a great month to get out with friends and family to enjoy the numerous activities & events we have coming up in the area. Also, art fairs are back and in a big way!

Below are our top twelve picks for upcoming events this month, along with the top six art fairs around Metro Detroit in July (and arguably all year) that you won’t want to miss!


#1 Michigan Rib Fest

July 1-4
Lake Orion, MI

Starting off our list is the 5th Annual Michigan Rib Fest, taking place between July 1-4 at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion! Canterbury Village is always a fun place to visit, with its little shops and of course their very own Yates Cider Mill store, but the numerous events they host throughout the year make it even more special. With 4 days of BBQ goodness, cold brews, live music, games, monster truck rides, and more, this is sure to be an event that pretty much everyone will enjoy.

#2 Royal Oak Taco Fest
July 1-4
Royal Oak, MI

If you’re more of a taco fan (who doesn’t love tacos???) make your way over to downtown Royal Oak between July 1-4 for the Royal Oak Taco Fest! Indulge on delicious tacos from over 40 taquerias, sip on ice cold cervezas & margaritas, enjoy some ice cream while you stroll around one of the best downtown areas in Metro Detroit! There will also be activities and entertainment for all ages including 3 stages with live music, axe throwing, a splash zone for the kids, hot pepper contest, taco eating contest and lucha libre wrestling!

Saline Celtic Festival
July 8-9
Saline, MI

Back and bigger than ever is the Saline Celtic Festival! For something a little different head to Mill Pond Park in Saline on July 8-9 for a look into Scottish heritage, culture, and loads of fun! Here you’ll find celtic inspired & other live music performances, a Highland dance competition, ring of steel fire show, the always entertaining Highland games, merchants selling their wares, celtic music & dance workshops, a ‘wee folks’ island with children’s activities, and much more. Don’t forget your kilt!

One Helluva Ride!
July 9
Chelsea, MI

For the best time on two wheels, head to Chelsea on July 9! Presented by the Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society, the 44th annual One Helluva Ride returns! This day-long event provides four different scenic bicycle tours through up to four counties with routes winding through both rural and recreational areas! The route options include three paved tours being 40, 63, or 10 miles in length, or a 40 mile gravel route. All tours begin and end at the Chelsea Fairgrounds and helmets are required for all riders.

Selfridge Open House
July 9-10
Harrison Twp, MI

On July 9-10 don’t miss the Selfridge Open House taking place at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base, located in Harrison Township! This amazing air show is completely free for general admission, with the option to purchase tickets for preferred seating. The air show will include performances by a number of past and present military aircraft, as well as parachute teams! Additional attractions include numerous ground displays and a kid’s zone with tons of different activities for children of all ages.

Detroit Kite Festival
July 10
Detroit, MI

Go fly a kite! No, seriously! Head to the beautiful Belle Isle State Park in Detroit on July 10 for the Detroit Kite Festival! This is another completely free event to attend, aside from the cost of a recreational passport for any vehicles entering. Kites may be available to fly, however it is strongly recommended that you bring your own if possible. Food trucks will be on site with delicious options, or plan ahead and bring a cooler/picnic of your own. Belle Isle has a number of fun activities for the whole family, so we highly suggest making a day of this event!

Farmington Founders Festival
July 14-16
Farmington, MI

Come join the fun on July 14-16 as Farmington celebrates its birthday with the Farmington Founders Festival! This year will include a 5K Color Run, the Founders Festival Parade, Farmington Fido Fest, a kid’s area with numerous crafts and activities, Crafters Market with vendors offering different decor, media & more, and of course the beer tent with live music each night for your entertainment. A Taste of Brighton
July 15-16
Brighton, MI

If you live closer to the west side of Metro Detroit, you won’t want to miss A Taste of Brighton, happening July 15-16! Downtown Brighton will be alive with its many shops and restaurants & bars extending their businesses outside into the street with exclusive specials and offers for all to enjoy. There will also be activities for attendees to enjoy including rock climbing, water slides, live music, and a dedicated Kid’s Zone with games, art and more!

Thunder Over Michigan
July 16-17
Ypsilanti, MI

The Thunder Over Michigan Air Show returns to the Willow run Airport in Ypsilanti! With four death defying shows over two days, this drive-up air show is sure to thrill all those in attendance! Each morning show will feature the USAF F-16 Demo Team, with afternoon shows featuring the US Navy’s very own Blue Angels. Bring your own food & non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy, or purchase food on site. Walk around and enjoy the static displays, meet the pilots, check out the KidZone, and don’t miss the Yankee Air Museum! Michigan Medieval Faire
July 16-17 / 23-24
Lake Orion, MI

Head to Canterbury Village in Lake Orion on July 16-17 and July 23-24 to step back in time with the Michigan Medieval Fair! With Castle’s turrets and ramparts, knights in shining armor jousting on their mighty steeds, musicians, minstrels, performers, jesters, mythical creatures, fire breathers and more providing entertainment for the entire family, this event is sure to be a lot of fun! Don’t forget to grab a pint of ale or mead, and enjoy some delicious foods while you’re there. In all honesty, the turkey legs alone are with the visit!

Michigan Summer Beer Festival
July 22-23
Ypsilanti, MI

Hopsheads and beerologists alike won’t want to miss the 22nd annual Michigan Summer Beer Festival running July 22-23 at Ypsilanti’s Riverside Park! Michigan’s finest brewers will be on hand with hundreds of fresh, local beers to be sampled. From IPAs, Porters, Pale Ales and beyond, there will be plenty of choices for even the most finicky of aficionados. Food will be available for purchase on-site, along with a variety of Michigan bands providing live music for your entertainment.

Fowlerville Family Fair
July 25-30
Fowlerville, MI

Find your way to Fowlerville between July 25-30 for the neon lights and country nights of the Fowlerville Family Fair! With midway rides, carnival games, all sorts of foods and treats, vendors, and an assortment of special events taking place each night including harness racing, demolition derby, micro wrestling, rodeo and a performance by John Michael Montgomery, this event is sure to entertain the entire family!

Plymouth Art in the Park
July 8-10
Plymouth, MI

Head over to downtown Plymouth July 8-10 for Michigan’s second largest art fair, as Art in the Park returns for its 42nd year! Over 400 vendors from around the nation will be in attendance this year selling artwork of all different media including paintings, woodwork, sculptures, jewelry, and more! There will also be entertainment, food and refreshments for purchase, as well as the numerous shops, restaurants and bars of downtown Plymouth!

Outdoor Art Fair
July 9-10
Royal Oak, MI

Also happening on July 9-10 is the Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair, taking place at Memorial Park! This marks the 50th year of the annual event, which is held by the Royal Oak Arts Council. With paintings, jewelry, sculptures and more by over 100 regional and nationally known artists, this is another fantastic option for those looking to enjoy a fun day filled with art, food & music.

Wyandotte Street Art Fair
July 13-16
Wyandotte, MI

Head south on July 13-16 for the 61st annual Wyandotte Street Art Fair! With approximately 300 local, regional and national artists being featured this year, 25 food and beverage concessions, and a number of local merchants converting sidewalks into an outdoor market, this art fair brings over 200,000 visitors to gorgeous, waterfront Wyandotte annually. Riverfront entertainment will also run from 12PM-11PM daily!

Ann Arbor Art Fair
July 21-23
Ann Arbor, MI

From July 21-23 make your way to Ann Arbor as the Ann Arbor Art Fair takes over 30 blocks of the downtown area! The largest juried art fair in the nation, with nearly 1,000 artists bringing their talent to AA, the Ann Arbor Art Fair is actually composed of three consecutively run and  independently juried art fairs being the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, Ann Arbor summer Art Fair, and Ann Arbor State Street Art Fair. This massive gathering of some of the best local, regional and national artists draws close to 500,000 attendees every year. Come enjoy what seems to be an endless sea of art, along with additional entertainment, activities, foods and refreshments.

Stony Creek Art Fair
July 23-24
Shelby Twp, MI

Make your way to Stony Creek Metropark’s Baypoint Beach in Shelby Township on July 23-24 for the Stony Creek Art Fair! With roughly 80 juried artists providing everything from paintings, to functional and wearable art, this is definitely a great show to attend and with a gorgeous backdrop. There will also be live music, hands on projects, and food trucks on site. Don't forget your bathing suit, as Stony Creek features two separate beaches, a waterslide and multiple other amenities for you to make a full day out of your visit!

Fine Art at The Village
July 30-31
Rochester Hills, MI

Rounding out our list of art fairs is the 18th Annual Fine Art at the Village in Rochester Hills! On July 30-31 come visit The Village where up to 100 artists from around the country will be on hand selling their goods of various media, free children’s activities and live demonstrations. There is also a coupon hunt where several $25 coupons and one $100 coupon that can be used as cash at artist’s booths will be hidden around the art fair in plastic eggs. And while you’re there, don’t forget to visit the numerous upscale shops, or grab a bite to eat at one of the excellent restaurants located at The Village!
