Top 5 Fireworks Displays in Metro Detroit 2022

The 4th of July is quickly approaching and there are a number of places in and around Metro Detroit where you can catch a beautiful display lighting up the night sky leading up to and even after Independence Day! From fairs to festivals, baseball games, and more, there is somewhere near you to get out and enjoy the festivities!

Fireworks originated as early as 200 BC, centuries before they were ever used to celebrate our first Independence Day in Boston of 1777. In addition to a grand fireworks display, each of the armed ships in the river, fully decorated in red, white and blue, fired 13 shots from their cannons in honor of the 13 colonies at the time.

While we may not be able to (and probably wouldn’t recommend) cannon fire to celebrate the 4th of July in modern times, fireworks remain a staple in celebrating our nation’s birthday and independence, along with the freedoms we are granted by living in this great land.

Beginning with a couple of honorable mentions, here are our top 5 picks around the Metro Detroit area for you to celebrate and take in a beautiful fireworks display near you with friends and family in 2022!

Honorable Mention #1: Comerica Park
Detroit, MI
Friday Home Games May 27 - Sept 30

A great way to enjoy fireworks, and a fun night out in Detroit, is to attend a Friday night home game for the Detroit Tigers any time between May 27 to September 30. Following each home game, Comerica Park will be putting on a fireworks display, which is actually done really well. It may not be as big as some displays done for the 4th of July, but where else can you enjoy a baseball game with your home team, hotdogs and refreshments, followed by fireworks over a stadium?

Honorable Mention #2: Jimmy John’s Field
Utica, MI
Friday Home Games May 27 - Sept 9

To answer the previous question, Jimmy John’s Field located in Utica will also be holding their own fireworks displays after each game taking place on a Friday night between May 27 and September 9! This provides another (and in many cases) much closer alternative for you to get out to catch a baseball game followed by fireworks, while skipping the congestion of the big city.

#2 Ford Fireworks
Detroit Riverfront
Detroit, MI
Monday, June 27 at 10:06PM

The OG of Michigan fireworks, the Ford fireworks (previously the Detroit Fireworks) will be held downtown over the Detroit River on Monday, June 27 beginning at 10:06 PM. This again is an extremely popular event and is known to get very busy. A pro tip is to rent a hotel for the night, or find a spot on the Windsor side of the river to take in the display, as it is typically much less congested on the Canadian side. Another option to view the display while escaping the crowds is to purchase tickets to The Parade Company’s private Rooftop Party, presented by Ford.
