Metro Detroit! This is Halloween 2022! In this video I will be covering my top picks for parties and events for adults around the Metro Detroit area, happening at the end of September and all throughout October, because just one day for Halloween is NEVER enough!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

With thousands of horror movies to choose from for the Halloween season, none perhaps have entered the realm of cult classics and developed such a following as the 1975 musical/comedy/horror film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. With the talented Tim Curry in his breakout role leading the cast as Frank N. Furter, the sweet transvestite from transexual Transylvania, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Meatloaf, and a house full of crazy characters, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been entertaining millions of fans around the world for nearly 50 years.

 

The Halloween season is the perfect time to enjoy The Rocky Horror Picture Show and there are several screenings and performances with live acting casts taking place across Metro Detroit from late September through October to do so. See our list of where you can join the fun below!

The Haunted Tavern: A Dark Pop-Up Cocktail Experience

 From September 28 through October 2, Secret Detroit is transforming the Detroit Circle Center on Joseph Campau in Hamtramck into a haunted tavern. The Haunted Tavern is an immersive cocktail experience (said to be run by the descendants of Ichabod Crane) where you can visit one of the most haunted locations in Detroit as the tavern keeper prepares themed drinks while guiding you through a 4-part interactive cocktail journey. Hear about the ghosts of Detroit, along other chilling and dark tales of ghosts that haunt the venue. Your night may be filled with surprises - it is said that one of the resident ghosts tends to sit in on the experience and scare those brave enough (or filled with enough liquid courage) to enter!

Dracula Bar: A Halloween Pop-Up

Creature Feature Comedy Gala - Fundraiser for the Devoted Barn

On October 9th from 7-10pm, Valentine Distilling Co. in Ferndale will be hosting an evening of costumes and comedy to help raise money for The Devoted Barn, a wonderful animal rescue and rehabilitation facility located in Holly, MI. The folks of Devoted Barn take in animals of all kinds who have survived cruelty and neglect, then work to heal these animals both physically and emotionally. The Valentine Distillery Co. is located on Vester Ave on the northside of 9 Mile, east of Woodward in downtown Ferndale and features a glamorous atmosphere with delicious world class, hand crafted spirits. Everyone who attends is invited to wear costumes, however they are not required for entry. The costume contest will have a $5 registration fee with the winner receiving 50% of entry fees! Prepared to be entertained by a lineup of comedians ready to tickle your funny bones!  Strictly speaking, this may not technically be a Halloween event, but we feel it is close enough having a costume contest, and for a phenomenal cause. The Takeover 1920s Mystery Dinner Theater

Step back in time and solve the crime at The Takeover 1920s Murder Mystery Dinner Theater at the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit! Welcome to the mayhem of the roaring 1920,s during the prohibition era when North Syndicate gangster, Duke Mugs, attempts to join forces with small town Speakeasy owner, Sam, to bootleg booze through the south. However, before they can strike a deal, SOMEONE DIES! Theater Bizarre

 Welcome to Theater Bizarre, dubbed “the world’s most spectacular masquerade party” by Travel & Leisure! And indeed, Theater Bizarre is arguably the biggest and best Halloween party in the Motor city each year. With a 2-part party celebrated over two weekends every October, Theater Bizarre features a Masquerade Gala on Friday, October 14th and 21st with “phantasmagoric entertainment”, a lavish cocktail reception, open bar and a strolling dinner spread over 8 floors bursting with live music, a ghost train ride, odditorium, asylum, ice cream parlor and much more! On Saturday, October 15th and 22nd, the same space is transformed to the Theater Bizarre with 8 floors of the Masonic Temple becoming a labyrinth of endless curiosities, shows, roaming performers and 19 performance space, over 20 unique musical acts with 6 main stages, sideshow and burlesque acts and so much more! A costume is required for both parties and Saturdays tend to be much busier with so much happening that you cannot possibly see it all in one night. Tickets for this event do sell out EVERY year and for good reason - it is THE party in Metro Detroit for Halloween.

Grab your costume, call your friends and get ready for a spooktacular time at the Annual Royal Oak HallowCrawl!  Ticket prices range from $10 to $30, with early ticket purchase discounts and group rates available. Ticket purchases include lanyards or wristbands, which will  cover entry fees for all locations, beer, cocktail and shot specials, keepsake photo, haunted karaoke and contests & free drawings for your chance to win a prize. Each location will feature live music (bands TBA), VJ’s and DJ’s,  & photo booths.  Participating locations are City Tavern, Motor City Gas, The Morrie, 526 Main, Tequila Blue, O’Tooles, Fifth Ave, Oak City Grille, Pronto Video Bar, Royal Oak Taphouse, Bar Louie, the Jolly Pumpkin and more. With over 2,000 people in attendance annually, this is one of the biggest Halloween parties in the area and sure to be a blast!

Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics

If partying it up at the bars to celebrate the Halloween season, perhaps A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics is more your speed. Candlelight Concert Series is converting from its usual classical music, and tributes to bands like Queen, Metallica and classic rock to pure Halloween. The scary excitement of Halloween comes alive in a new way when the Listeso String Quartet performs fun Halloween inspired music under the glow of candlelight.  Songs performed include Thriller by Michael Jackson, Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, This Is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas, popular theme songs The Exorcist, Stranger Things, Beetlejuice, The Addams Family, Halloween, Ghostbusters, and more. Performance dates are scheduled between October 20th to the 31st and will take place in several locations to choose from including the Redford Theater, The Masonic Theater in the Crystal Ballroom, Sanctuary Church in Birmingham and First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor.

Monster’s Ball Detroit

If you’re unable to make it to Theater Bizarre, the Monster’s Ball Detroit happening at the Russell Industrial Center on October 22. The Monster’s Ball features some of Metro Detroit’s best DJ’s including Chuck D, DJ Cue, Hartmando, Dino, Mike Tee, DJG, and Tommy Holiday, as well as live circus performers and stage entertainers such as stilt walkers, aerialists, acrobats, illusionists, fire performers and fortune tellers. Like theater Bizarre, costumes are required for entry to this event. Ticket prices range from $20 for general admission, or $50 for VIP access, giving you express entry, a premium no line bar, access to the pit at the front of the stage, catwalk level access, and the vampire lair.  With over 2,500 people attending annually, this is another MASSIVE party to attend for Halloween, but be warned - tickets sell out fast for this one also.

Detroit’s Official Halloween Bar Crawl

For yet another party, you won’t want to miss Detroit’s Official Halloween Bar Crawl! This event takes place over four days, with the first two scheduled days (October 22nd & 29th) taking place with an earlier start time from 3pm to 11pm, then at a later start time of 6pm to 2am for October 28th and 31st. Tickets are only $15 to attend and cover all door cover charges, specialty and spooky themed drinks, kick-off, half-time & after party, a costume contest and more! Participating venues included are Level Two Rooftop, Exodos Rooftop, Delmar Rooftop, Mix Nightclub and Three Legged Goat. Whatever you do, don’t forget your costume and your drinking shoes!

A Masquerade Themed Fundraiser

A Starrs Initiative Nonprofit Organization is hosting A Masquerade Themed Fundraiser on October 23 from 3pm to 7pm in Detroit with the intention of empowering women and survivors of domestic violence. The purpose of this Fashion Show is to raise awareness of and start the funding for A Starrs Initiative first home to house survivors of domestic violence, with 100% of proceeds going to the non-profit. Those who donate a minimum of $50 will receive a complimentary dinner with bottomless mimosas!

Mega 80's Halloween Spooktacular

The Mega 80’s will be taking the stage at the Magic Bag on October 28 for their Annual Halloween Spooktacular! This 21+ event is guaranteed to be a ghoulishly good time where attendees are invited to dress up in their best 80’s themed costumes, come out and enjoy a night of drinks and dancing with one of Metro Detroit’s best local bands. Tickets sell out on this one as well, so get yours now, which will also save you $5 over trying to purchase them at the door. While you’re in town, make sure to stop by one of Fenrdale’s many awesome restaurants before the show!
