The Perna Team Cares: Kentucky Initiative

When Perna Team agent Wendy Thagard awoke and turned on her TV Saturday morning of December 11, 2021 to see the catastrophic damage caused by the tornados in Western Kentucky, she was heartbroken.

Over 70 Kentucky residents lost their lives, countless homes and businesses were completely destroyed, and we were told that many families who were able to escape their homes were left with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

Wendy felt compelled to take action and make every attempt possible to help the thousands of people impacted. She sent an email to local company Corrigan Moving Systems to see if they would be willing to help out. By Monday morning, she had an email awaiting her saying they would donate both a 52 foot semi truck, along with a driver, to transport all donations to those in need.

The Perna Team quickly sprang into action organizing several drop off points around Metro Detroit to collect bottled water, non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies, diapers, wipes, toiletries, tarps, totes and new clothing items. By the end of the day on Saturday, December 18, the truck was nearly full and ready to begin the journey south.

A big part of The Perna Team's mission statement is putting people first and that is something we try to do in all aspects of our lives.

As devastating as this incident was for the families involved, we couldn't be more proud of the team and all those in the local community here in Metro Detroit who stepped up to help out where possible.

Our hearts go out to all of those affected by the tornados and we hope that the small part we were able to play helped give some hope and provide some relief to the families who received the donated supplies.

Again, a HUGE shout out to Wendy Bochenek Thagard for setting this in motion and to Corrigan Moving Systems for donating a truck and driver to make this a possibility, along with everyone who donated their time and/or goods to help out complete strangers who were desperately in need.

We are beyond proud to be part of and to serve such an amazing community of amazing people!
