Game day in Detroit isn’t just about the action on the field or the final score, it’s a full downtown experience. Before the first pitch or opening kickoff, fans flood local pubs and patios, turning the city’s core into a sea of team colors and camaraderie. Afterwards, win or lose, many stick around to celebrate (or commiserate) over a round. Detroit boasts what Forbes once called “the most compact sports district in America,” with three major venues, Ford Field, Comerica Park, and Little Caesars Arena, all within a short walk. That means whether you’re heading to a Tigers baseball game, a Lions football matchup, or a Red Wings/Pistons showdown, you have a ton of great bars and eateries nearby for pre-game and post-game fun.

Large crowds packed the Detroit City Council chambers on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, as supporters rallied behind their favorite local heroes. By the end of the session, council members voted to approve honorary street name signs for five distinguished Detroiters. This secondary street naming program – which only allows up to five honorees citywide each year, drew 23 applications from across the city. Advocates from different neighborhoods turned out in force (over 100 people attended or called in) to make the case for their nominees. In the end, the Council selected an inspiring mix of figures in civil rights, faith, business, entertainment, and public service.

The unanimous approval means each honoree will have an official honorary sign posted at a…

If Detroit had a dating profile, it would be bold, unapologetic, and maybe just a little flirtatious.

This is a city that’s been through heartbreak, rebirth, and more reinvention than a Hollywood actor on a comeback tour, and somehow, it only gets better with time.

So let’s do something different.

Let’s let Detroit tell its own story.

Because when you hear it from the city itself, you’ll understand why so many people are falling for the Motor City, and why, once you’re here, you might never want to leave.

About Me

Hey there, I’m Detroit. Born in 1701, which technically makes me 322 years old, but trust me, I’ve still got it.

I’ve seen a lot, built a lot, lost a lot, and come roaring back stronger every single time.
