Today we’ll be making a departure from our usual subject, real estate, to talk about something a little different: Hurricane Harvey.
This storm has been one of the greatest natural disasters of our time, having displaced 30,000 people in its wake. In the past few days alone, there have been 450,000 requests for disaster relief and more are likely to come.
There has been $160 billion worth of destruction, and the size of the storm is approximately the size of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy combined.
A record-breaking 52 inches of rainfall has caused widespread damage and help is desperately needed by those affected. Never before has so much rain fallen at once in the continental US.
Be on the lookout for scam organizations posing as charities. Many of these are looking to unethically take on money and donations without any intent of using these resources in any sort of relief effort.
Keller Williams is making our own effort to help. If you would like to make a donation, visit www.kwrelief.org where you will find a direct link to the American Red Cross.
We are doing everything we can to get resources like money, supplies, and volunteer help into the right hands. Several Keller Williams agents have dedicated their time and energy to assisting those in need.
The worst is still not over. There are months of rebuilding ahead and there are many families who have lost absolutely everything. We encourage anyone and everyone who is able to do so to give once, twice, or as often as they can to help put these families back on their feet.
Generosity is greatly needed in these desperate times.
On the Perna Team, we’ve begun taking donations as well. Keller Williams Realty International has prepared three 18-wheeler trucks to bring supplies, help, food, and clean water into disaster areas. They will continue to travel to areas of need for as long as is necessary.
All of us at Keller Williams are greatly committed to doing everything we can to help.
If you have any other questions or would like more information, feel free to give me a call or send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
