East will be an estimated 60 students less in the coming school year. Over the last 3 years, the free and reduced lunch population has increased from 25% to 30%. The student population has become more transient as families have been moving in and out of the school community. East has received Title 1 funding for the past 8 years. Harrison High School (also known as "Farmington Harrison" or simply as "Harrison") is 2 miles north. As of the 2015-2016 school year, the school educates a student body of 1,083. Harrison High School’s Mission is "to develop students to be caring and engaged learners who make informed decisions as they become internationally minded in their stewardship of the world and its resources." Harrison's mascot is the Hawk and its colors are green and gold. In March 2016, the Farmington school board announced that the school will be closed following the 2018-19 academic year, citing lower student populations in the city of Farmington Hills.

Mercy High School is also less than a mile from this home. This school is a Catholic college, all-girls preparatory school. The Mercy tradition began in 1945 when the Sisters of Mercy opened Our Lady of Mercy High School at Outer Drive and Southfield Roads in Detroit. Smith Theatre offers cultural events, including theatre and dance performances open to the community and students.

South University in Novi is 9.5 miles west. Established in 1899, South University is a private academic institution dedicated to providing educational opportunities for the intellectual, social, and professional development of a diverse student population. The Novi, Michigan campus offers focused and balanced curricula at the bachelor's degree level in the areas of business administration, criminal justice, healthcare management, and psychology. Other degree programs offered include a Master of Arts in professional counseling and a Master of Business Administration. South University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

Walsh College - Novi Campus is 10.5 miles west. It serves the residents and students of western Oakland and Wayne counties. The Novi Campus is a technology-enriched facility that operates as a full service campus with 35,000 square foot of classrooms, open computer labs, a library, bookstore, student lounge and meeting space. Founded in 1922 and celebrating more than 90 years of business education, Walsh College offers 19 business and related technology degree programs at the bachelor's and master's levels that are responsive to student, employer, and community needs. Walsh is a private, not-for-profit institution offering courses and services at locations in Troy, Novi, Clinton Township, Port Huron, and online.
