‘Tis the season for holiday themed entertainment! Once again Metro Detroit delivers some of the best entertainment options around with some classic live, as well as some newer shows that the whole family will enjoy!

Whether you’re seeking to attend a Broadway hit, catch a holiday concert, or spend some time with the kids this holiday season, we have you covered on the events below. Let’s begin!
Les Misérables
Fisher Theatre, Detroit
December 8 to January 8

Ok, unlike the rest of this list, Les Misérables isn’t exactly holiday themed, but it is a timeless Broadway musical production about love, courage & hope that we couldn’t help but include. Seen by 70 Million people over 44 countries and performed in 22 languages, Les Misérables is based on Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel of the same name that showcases the resilience of the human spirit and is one of the longest running musicals in the world. Set in early 19th century France, follow the journey of French peasant, Jean Valjean, as he searches for redemption after serving 19 years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister's starving child. Valjean breaks his parole to start his new life after being inspired by a kind act from a bishop, but is pursued by a police inspector determined to keep him from escaping justice. Along the way the cast of characters are swept up in the anti-monarchist insurrection of France’s June Rebellion as young idealists attempt to overthrow the government. If you have seen the Hollywood adaptation of  Les Misérables, you truly must witness the original for yourself.

Elf the Musical
Fisher Theatre, Detroit
November 22 to 27

Buddy is back in Elf the Broadway Musical! What has quickly become a Christmas classic, the 2003 film Elf is the tale of an orphaned child named Buddy who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and grows up in the North Pole believing that he is in fact an elf. Faced with his larger than normal size and poor toy making abilities, Buddy gets Santa’s permission to travel to New York City to find his father, discover his identity and teach New York the true meaning of Christmas. Brilliantly portrayed by Will Ferrell in the cinema hit, Elf now comes to life with a whole cast of characters in this hilariously entertaining musical production featuring songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Skylar & Chad Beguelin. Hailed by Variety as “happy enough for families, savvy enough for city kids and plenty smart for adults,” Elf should surely be on your holiday list of to-dos.
