Sylvan Glen is an 18-hole public course located in north-central Troy. It's a challenging par 71 course with four sets of tees, ranging from 5,100 to 6,700 yards. This course has been open since 1922 and has some beautiful old-growth trees. It's not uncommon to see local wildlife when playing a round here.

Sylvan Glen Lake borders the southern edge of the course, and a creek runs through the back nine to create a water hazard. The club restaurant is called Camp Ticonderoga, and it's located next to the putting green. Although it doesn't have a driving range, the club also has a golf shop and a professional trainer.

Somerset Golf Club

Somerset Golf Club is a semi-private nine-hole course that opened in 1962 and is located in the southwest part of Troy. Sanctuary Lake Golf Course

Sanctuary Lake Golf Course opened in 2004 and quickly became a favorite destination for golfers in Troy. Other than a few townhomes on the western edge and taller buildings in the distance, this course feels almost completely isolated from the city. At 190 acres and 18 holes, it's a memorable championship course filled with strategic bunkers and water hazards. The course has four sets of tees ranging from 4,700 to 6,500 yards and a slope rating of 133 from the black tees.

A big draw for golfers of all skill levels is Sanctuary Lake's large practice facility. It offers 70 hitting stations on natural and artificial turf where a golfer can work on their swing. A separate area is set aside for chipping and pitching practice, and a practice green for putting is available. The course and the practice facility are open seven days a week.

Pine Trace Golf Club is an 18-hole public course located in the city of Rochester Hills, which borders Troy's northern city limit. The course follows the creek through Red Run Park in Madison Heights. It has a nice clubhouse and a pro shop. Red Oaks attracts many players of FootGolf, a more relaxed game similar to golf but played with a soccer ball.

Springdale Golf Course

Springdale Golf Course is in the city of Birmingham, just west of Troy. The course has been open since 1929 and underwent some major renovations in 2000 and 2001. It's a nine-hole public course offering more of a challenge than some of the other similar-sized courses in the area.

The Rouge River winds through the course and offers a significant water hazard on several holes. Springdale is a par 34 course with blue tees ranging at 2,732 yards and red tees at 2,196 yards. There's also a public park with a children's playground, a shaded pavilion, and a picnic area. Springdale offers a putting green and a clubhouse, with club and cart rentals at the pro shop.

The course has rolling hills, plenty of trees, and challenging hazards, from strategically placed bunkers to the beautiful stream winding through the center.

Stonycroft Hills has a driving range for practice and an in-house teaching pro. The clubhouse has a dining room, gathering areas for members and guests, and a pro shop. The course is 1,883 yards from the shortest tees and 2,766 yards from the longest tees. Guests are welcome to play at this course, so long as a member accompanies them.
