Eben Ice Caves

The Eben Ice Caves are a popular tourist attraction located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in the 4,000 acre Rock River Canyon Wilderness of the Hiawatha National Forest. They are about 20 miles southwest of Munising, but can only be accessed via a short, although somewhat challenging hike through the woods. The caves are formed by flowing water that has carved out intricate designs in the sandstone rock. During the winter months, the caves fill with ice, creating a stunning display of frozen formations.

Visitors to the Eben Ice Caves should be prepared for cold and potentially slippery conditions, and ice cleats are highly recommended for this excursion to assist with sure footing. The caves are open for visits during the winter months, weather permitting, and it is recommended to check conditions before visiting, as the caves can be dangerous if the ice is unstable or if the weather is poor.

The Eben Ice Caves are a truly unique and awe-inspiring destination that should be on the list of any nature lover or adventurer. With its stunning beauty, fascinating geology, and rich ecosystem, the Eben Ice Caves offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is not to be missed.
