A Day at The Hawk Community Center in Farmington Hills

Welcome to The Hawk! The Hawk Community Center (possibly the greatest community center ever) boasts a 245,000 facility, along with 42 acres with numerous activities for residents and guests of all ages!

Located in Farmington Hills, Michigan and previously home to Harrison High School (1970-2019), The Hawk opened its doors to the public in June of 2021. The City of Farmington Hills had purchased the old school for $500,000 before investing more than $26 Million into a full scale renovation that brought it to its current glory.

One of the main attractions to The Hawk is the amazing aquatics center featuring a huge pool area, fully equipped with waterslide, lazy river, lap swim lanes, zip line, climbing wall, rentable party room and fully upgraded ADA accessible locker rooms. Numerous programs are offered at the Aquatic Center including private & group swimming lessons for all experience levels, lifeguard & CPR training, Water Aerobics, over 50 various fitness classes & more. There are also open swim times for the public, competitive swimming, and Hawk’s Nest child Watch for children ages 3-11 years old.

The Hawk also contains its own theater with 766 seats and upgraded light & sound systems. This theater brings the opportunity for participants of all ages to attend and/or participate in numerous types of arts & culture from theatrical performances to concerts, dance, festivals and many more. And they have great props.

Due to how well it was preserved the Gymnasium at The Hawk remains largely unchanged since the days of Harrison High School. Included are three full basketball courts, pickleball court, & volleyball nets. Also offered are classes, clinics, open gym times, as well as locker rooms.

The Hawk also features a state of the art fitness center with equipment for both cardio & weights. This includes stationary & spinning bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, free weights, power cages and adaptive exercise equipment. Services offered at the fitness center include orientations, personal training, small group training, healthy living coaches and group exercise classes.

Harrison Hall, aptly named after Harrison Highschool, is a large open room that is available for rent for birthday parties, or business purposes. There are also two additional rooms, with one overlooking the pool area, that are available for rent for a total of three large spaces. Food services are available through The Hawk, with outside food from a licensed vendor also being permitted depending on Hawk guidelines. Party room packages also include aquatic center and facility access, a Hawk party event host, party balloons, paper dining products, and a party room speaker. Additionals are also available as upgrades.

Wrapping up inside the facility, the Makerspace is a wonderful addition to The Hawk that allows hobbyists and entrepreneurs alike a chance to flex their creative muscles in the woodshop where they can learn how to make furniture and other wood-based products. A full shop includes all of the tools and power tools needed to create projects from beginning to end. Classes and workshops are also available covering topics such as furniture design and training on how to safely use equipment.

Outside of the facility you will also find a number of amenities such as the newly resurfaced pickleball & tennis courts, softball field, central turf field, a large grass field, and the stadium track & field, which is currently undergoing a long-term overhaul to replace and improve the track and field. Outside amenities are open to the public when not in use by a Hawk program, or rented out.

The Hawk Community Center truly is a gem of Farmington Hills, offering residents and locals the opportunity to enjoy a number of different amenities and programs all in one place. It is also a wonderful learning opportunity for those of all ages with the numerous programs, classes, camps and events available to the public.
